Motherhood

A few weeks ago I taught a lesson to my cute little 12 year old beehives. The lesson was on attitudes and motherhood. As always, I personally learned so much by preparing the lesson.

This lesson came at a perfect time...we were potty training. Yes folks, Austin at 2.5 years old was ready to "pee pee" on the potty. He had watched his cousin many times (hey it works), so the potty was nothing new to him. Now to train him to actually "go" on the potty was interesting.
We started Sunday morning, Austin "threw away" his diapers. Don't worry, Daron quickly went and saved them when Austin wasn't looking. We then put cool "Thomas the Train" underwear on him. He was very excited.

Then the day began. We watched his every move...all...day...long! All I can say it, I'm glad Daron was home with me. After 5 accidents in 5 hours, I thought, "I'm Done!" But little did we know that that 5th accident would be Austin's last!

Yes, he pretty much is a potty trained champ! He realized that he didn't like the pee running down his leg, or the poop smashed between his cheeks (sorry TMI..right?) So he would run and tell us he had to go potty. It was awesome! Even now 2 weeks later, I think he's had 3 accidents since then, but some were my fault. I've decided I need to be trained right with him. I forget to ask if he needs to go before we leave places.

So when we were at Smith's in the checkout line and he said " I need to go potty". I said the only thing I can think of "Hold it!" Austin is such a good boy, that he literally "held it". I frantically bagged everything and asked the nice workers where the "potty" was (yes I believe I said potty) and ran with all my bags and Austin in tow to the "potty". But, wouldn't you know that they would have balloons right outside of the bathrooms. Honestly! Austin totally forgot he was "holding" anything and let it go while jumping for the balloons. Dang it! Now I know better.

Joshie is growing up so fast! He has the cutest giggle. He is such a happy boy (with his reflux medicine). We started feeding him sweet potatoes and peas and rice cereal. He still makes weird faces when eating. He is sleeping really good at night, usually only waking one time and then going back to bed.

This past week our neighborhood was reminded how truly precious life is. Our cute 16 year old neighbor boy was hit and killed by a car while crossing his bike on a crosswalk. He was one of those boys that you know would go far in life. His family is so faithful and strong, I am amazed at their composure and faith through this hard time. I look at my little boys and thank Heavenly Father for everyday that I have with them. Again that lesson of motherhood came into my mind.

We also were able to celebrate my moms 60th birthday! We planned an "Amazing Race" for my parents. My dad would love to be on that show, so we thought it would be fun to do one of our own. What better place then at City Creek. If you've never been there, it's huge, yet amazing! We had little clues to get them to different stores. At each store one of us would be there to give them their next clue. Once we were all picked up we headed onto the Trax to the Gateway. The only bad thing about City Creek is they don't have a lot of sit down restaurants. So we went to the Gateway and ate dinner.

Out on the town, on a date!!

It was so much fun to be with the family and enjoy my mom and celebrate her birthday! Now that I am a mother I am so, so, so thankful for my mom and for my sweet mother-in-law. They are both great women. Motherhood is definitely tiring and frustrating at times, but it is always worth it and so rewarding. I learned from teaching that lesson that our attitudes can show others how motherhood really is. I hope I am one that shows it in a positive light. I love my calling as a mother!
